Routing

Grace Home is running like a real family, yet we follow a kind of routing. As a formal example we used to follow the daily sequence given below (except on Saturdays):

Awake up!

In morning time, children awake up around 7h00. After have wash, they take tea and used their time in different activities.

Praying time

Supervise by the director or the grand mother, the children take 15 minutes for praying and singing Christian song.

Upkeep duties

Each children have to complete small upkeep duties in rooms and common place (children rooms, playroom, bathroom, toilet) or have to help for cook the breakfast.

Homework time

In the case where some children did not completed their homework the day before.

Play time

According to their interest, children a free to do what they want but must b ready for school (poutting in school uniform)

Breakfast

School time / between 10h00 to 15h30

Come back from school

After putting out their school dress, children used their free time in playing, bathing or washing some clothes.

Homework time

From 17h, the children take one hour of homework supervise by the tuition teachers (volunteers).

Free time

Dinner

Pray time

Sleeping time

The children used to go to bed alone, around 20h00.

We follow this planning from Sunday to Friday. Indeed Saturday is a holiday in Nepal. So children can wake up a little later (we have the habit to watch a film on Friday night and children sleep later than usual). In the morning they have free time until to go to church at 10h, on where they used to have lunch. After that, they often go to the ‘Sunday class’ from 14h00 to 15h30. At last, the rest of the day is free for any kind of activities (Games, sport activities, painting and drawing…)

Future project

A new home for Grace Home

Currently, two main reasons urge us to looking for a land on which to build a permanent home, sufficient for our running and development. However, according to our limited resources, that is proving to be a real challenge! Whatever the coming difficulties, Grace Home had to get ready for a new stage in his life, moving on a new land and final home.

a. The constraint: We remind that Grace Home have never been owner of this land, this on is kindly lending by the present vice president. The last lease agreement passed between him and Grace Home stipulate a length of three years, until January 2012. This length was decided according to the future needs of each part. The quickly infrastructure development of Kathmandu urge the small local owners to sell their land for building. Thus, we cannot more use of the generosity of our vice president, who also had to think about his own future.

b. A need: As children are growing, new needs appear. Our present offices did not offer enough beds and intimacy for adolescent children. Beside, we still search for few more children in the future. Then, we really want to be an example of orphanage home. For that, we should follow perfectly the directives given by District Children Development Center (DCDC) about the configuration of orphanage offices, which request to orphanage home to provide a minimum space, intimacy, comfort, equipment for a children.

Another reason, less substantial but also a factor, lie in the fact that the area around us is going to be totally used by high building. Today, these infrastructures mask us to the sun and make a cold atmosphere within Grace Home. It will be difficult to progress within the hole that created our neighbors! Finally, our offices are proving to curb the development of Grace Home. The acquisition of a new conform home will be a springboard for the future of Grace Home Organization.

c. Operation plan: Actually, the acquisition cost of a land in Kathmandu is really expensive if we make the comparison with our present resources. However, in developing a private support for this special project, we thought can be able to collect enough support for the purchase of a land, outside of the main periphery of the city. Then, the second budget will be use to build the house, in respecting the directives of DCDC. Our fist action was to open a fixed deposit bank account, in order to collect the found in a safe place and where we will get interest. That account is running in Global Bank, in the name of “Grace Home”.

Current challenge

Financial support for the organization is dependent upon the generosity of its members, as well as that of the local and international volunteers. Due to the fluctuating nature of donations it makes a balance and a planning for the long term of the organization difficult. These financial contributions provide for the day-to-day running of the shelter, however there are requirements that cannot currently be met.

1. Food: Answer to the nutritional needs

Providing proper and nutritional food for our children is essential. Currently, the age range of the children is from 6 to 14 years old, which ultimately means that we are constantly in need of food for these growing children. A help is required for support the expenses in essentials dietary foods such as dairy products, fruit and meat.

2. Education: Create a permanent support through sponsoring

Grace Home’s committee is really concern about the next resources, which will allow them to make sure their studies. The ideas of create a long term sponsoring is getting to begin. Sponsoring”.

3. Health: Reinforce to the sanitary steady

We often faced difficulty in support hospital charge in case of emergency or even for a simple visit to the doctor. The attached expenses (test, x ray, check up, prescription medicine…) are regularly supported thanks to the generosity of the volunteers who are present. We would like to be sure to provide a secure steady of health, thus, we want to create a financial provision in bank for the emergency cases.

4. Facilities and well being: Maintain and improve the daily life

Electricity: Actually, our main equipment (water filter, rice cooker, computer) is working by electricity. The government load shedding in Nepal is not going to be reduced it became really worrying. So, we often think to invest in a generator. However, the matter is still the same, we need support for maintain it with petrol.

Gas: Currently because of the electricity cut or the financial restraints we have to use firewood to cook food. While firewood does provide the children with a cooked meal, it is getting more difficult to cook with firewood as we progress through the year. So we would like to provide enough gas for cooking. Two gas cylinders seem to be enough for one month.

Other: Any kind of support is required for helping us to provide and improve the materials, tools and product necessary for a good hygiene and useful way of life (bedding, clothing, well being things, office furniture…).
